About Me
I grew up in a little place called Springfield in Chelmsford, Essex. It's where I went to school, made friends and started writing. Growing up, I had a wild imagination. My sister and I would create boats out of boxes, shoes out of paper, people out of stuffed tights! We didn't have mobile phones, Facebook or iPad's back then. We had to rely on our own creative minds to keep ourselves entertained throughout our childhood - which for me, seems to have carried on into my adulthood!
My mum would read to us at bedtime. The Chronicles of Narnia was always one of my favourites. That's probably where my love of Turkish Delight began! I loved borrowing books from the school library. Tim and Tobias was one of my favourite series in the eighties, but it was 'The Jolly Postman' book that encouraged me to try my hand at writing. I started by copying other stories such as The Babysitters Club and Point Horror until I eventually found my own style and characters. Actually, two of the main characters I wrote about when I was twelve are still my main characters now - only their surnames have changed, they've grown older, grown younger and changed from being brother and sister to friends with chemistry. If they were real people, they'd need counselling!
Most of my inspiration stemmed from working as a Guest Host Assistant at Madame Tussauds for three years. My debut novel, Hexed, is set within an attraction full of performers and curious customers, so I feel lucky enough to be able to draw on my past experiences, adding sparkle to my story.
I currently work from home in Colchester for a vibrant Digital Marketing Company based in London. However, I'm not alone. My three pets keep me company. I have two cats called Tallulah and Ferris and a Golden Retriever called Barnum. If you're old enough, you might have already figured out what films I've stolen their names from. If you're not sure, pop over to Google and have a look. I'll just wait here...
Are you back? Great. I'll continue. When I'm not working or writing, I enjoy involving myself in a variety of activities. I love performing on stage in pantos and plays - another aspect of my life that crept into my story. I also present a daily show for Radio Chelmsford, Life Model for different Art Groups and at the weekends I teach young children Performing Arts, which results in an end-of-term show. If you're tired out just reading that, imagine I how I feel! I do love to fill my life with colour and excitement and have always lived to the motto, 'Don't think about it. Just do it.' This motto has led me to daring charity pursuits including Abseiling, Skydiving and Swimming with Sharks. I promise that I do sit down to rest...sometimes.
My writing has taken me on various adventures. I have written short interactive stories for family events at Halloween. I have also written a couple of scripts, one being a pantomime and the other being an adult comedy. More recently, I was invited to write blogs for Frinton Summer Theatre's Social Media Platforms.
Music has played a huge part in my writing and my life. I could create a soundtrack to Hexed. Each chapter and almost each scene stirs up different songs that helped me write that particular section. Just one tune has the power to inspire me, trigger my creativity and help me scribble words onto the page. "Where words fail, music speaks,' Hans Christian Andersen.
